چکیده

A femtosecond X-ray source was developed by Thomson scattering through interaction between a lowemittance picosecond electron beam and a terawatt femtosecond laser light at 90 configuration. The observed X-ray intensity with peak energy of 2.3 keV and pulse duration of 270 fs rms was typically 1.4x10 photons/pulse. The pulse-to-pulse fluctuation of the X-ray intensity was measured to be 25%. The spatial profile of the X-rays was measured with a technique of X-ray imaging on a phosphor screen using an image-intensified CCD camera. The dependence of the X-ray beam profile on the scattering laser polarization was obtained and compared with theoretical analysis.

Quasi-monoenergetic and tunable X-rays from a laser-driven Compton light source

The maximum achievable photon energy of compact, conventional, Compton-scattering X-ray sources is currently limited by the maximum permissible field gradient of conventional electron accelerators.1,2 An alternative compact Compton X-ray source architecture with no such limitation is based instead on a high-field-gradient laser–wakefield accelerator.3–6 In this case, a single high-power (100 TW...

The study of propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in the breast tissue

In this paper, the evaluation of time profile of a femtosecond pulse laser propagated through biological tissues is studied. The majority of the biological tissues with a high scattering anisotropy must be considered as turbid media, that their optical responses are complicated. To study the propagation of ultra-short pulse in turbid media, the diffuse equation is used. In this study, the analy...

Development of Pulse Width Measurement Techniques in a Picosecond Range of Ultra-short Gamma Ray Pulses

Ultra-short gamma ray pulses of the picosecond and femtosecond range can be generated using laser Compton scattering with 90-degree collisions at the UVSOR-II electron storage ring. Measurement techniques for a gamma ray pulse width in the sub-picosecond to picosecond range are being developed. As the first stage of the development, we tested a pulse width measuring method for the gamma ray pul...

Femtosecond Electron and X-ray Generation by Laser and Plasma-based Sources

The generation of ultra-short x-rays by Thomson scattering intense laser pulses from electron beams is discussed, including recent experimental results and methods for enhancing the x-ray flux. A high flux of x-rays in a femtosecond pulse requires the generation of femtosecond electron bunches and a head-on Thomson scattering geometry. The generation of ultrashort electron bunches in a plasmaba...

Generation of Gev Photons from X-ray Free Electron Laser Oscillators

We propose generation of narrow-bandwidth GeV photons, gamma-rays, via Compton scattering of hard X-ray photons in X-ray free-electron laser oscillators [1]. The gamma-rays have a narrow-bandwidth spectrumwith a sharp peak, ∼0.1% (FWHM), due to the nature of Compton scattering in relativistic regime. Such gamma-rays will be a unique probe for studying hadron physics. In this paper, we discuss d...
